pre- I can’t believe how long I have been sitting here waiting for this fight to start, yawning. Oh, now there’s a highlight package. I hope Canelo knocks this dude out early & this family can stop bothering him. Hearing people sing the Star Spangled Banner in their own language is always fun.

-Canelo has the best body work in the game. This is only a matter of time, he’s playing with a tall toy.

-I know why it says “Autism” on his shorts and I know it’s not supposed to be funny and I try really hard to not think it’s funny to fit in. Man I bet Canelo loves going up against tall dudes because he can just beat their body into submission, doesn’t even need to speak to you up there.

-i walked downstairs to get a little water. I don’t know where these come from or why’d we have so many on our hands but there are 3 tiny little water bottles and in the mornings I fill them up and in the evenings I drink them, one by one, with ceremony and I forgive myself

-Smith landed an uppercut that didn’t look that serious but it made Canelo mad and he just beat him up. Don’t think Smith was supposed to do that, contractually. Canelo is one of the best boxers I’ve ever seen and I’d hate it if his weird promotional shit and DAZN deal and then one-off return force people to miss watching him fight in his prime. It sucks. Imagine that as a FOX PBC pay-per-view; it would be actually exciting

-I want to write the Canelo Alvarez story like David Foster Wallace wrote the Roger Federer story.

-In boxing, in beating people up and not getting beat up, you can be so great, sometimes a dude will come along that is so much better at this then anyone should be that only a few fights seem fair or worth his talent and that’s Canelo. He asks for the most insane challenges, like moving up to Light Heavyweight to fight Kovolev and now he’s a free agent so hopefully he’ll get Charlo or maybe even Plant who’d rate because Callum Smith, whose the titleholder in this division, looks like a middle-school kid who won a contest to spar with Canelo.

-it’s a nightcap. End the day with a little water, forgive yourself. You’re doing great. It’s hard and you are doing great. You are strong as fuck — just making it through another day. Athletes at the level of Canelo remind us how strong we are, how strong we can be.

-Canelo at 0:46 with an incredible uppercut with Smith on the ropes but Smith is getting some shots off, clean too.

-i think this is DAZN’s worldwide debut. I saw that England today imposed a strict lockdown. Life keeps here as normal as we pretend, learn to accept, come to silent agreements, ignore, scroll past, mute, in the name of the national economy. A national economy which is run by, and for, like 9 dudes. Smith’s face is bloodied. His nose is leaking blood, huge geometric chunks discharge.

-do you know how much smaller Canelo Alvarez is than Callum Smith? Much, much smaller. Canelo wants this fight, he fired his last promoter because the dude wasn’t getting him scraps and Canelo wants to go. I know it has been said but I love hearing the trainers the whole fight through with the lack of crowds.

-live betting updates from mgm grand have Canelo at +5000. Googling what does +5000 mean in words. Ten bucks risked will win you 500 bucks. That doesn’t make any sense, I wrote something down wrong. I’m not financially with it one hundred percent. Can’t believe I’m still typing about this fight, respect for Callum Smith for taking this.

-i know i should just mouth these thoughts to myself into the void but I like watching and not looking down and letting my fingers kind of paint a little — I know it’s not that, I just know it feels like that which is all I’m going for. This was two men, and yes, I know that just saying their gender is already a signal that there is something inherently masculine, or at least something relevant about their gender to even mention it — fighting for money, for entertainment. That’s the sport of it, is what people don’t understand.

Canelo Alvarez, winner by unanimous decision.
